What is Medicare?

Medicare is a health insurance programme in the United States levied by Federal Government of US. Until 1965, people older than 65 years of age did not use to get insurance coverage at affordable rates. Medicare facility has extended a helping hand to the elderlies in the US by introducing insurance plans according to their state and any diseases if they suffer.

Pre-conditions to enroll in a Medicare insurance plan:

1.       Candidate's age should be either 65 or older.
2.       Candidate is less than 65 years of age, but, holds disabilities
3.       Candidate's age is x and is suffering from End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)

Where x refers to any age group

Medicare insurance has the following four parts:

1.       Part A- Medicare Part A relates to hospital insurance which covers inpatient care, hospice services, nursing facilities and home health care. The government charges no additional premium costs on hospital insurance.

2.       Part B- This is medical insurance which involves healthcare provider services like doctors, outpatient care, home care, etc. Unlike Part A Medicare, Part B charges an additional premium from candidates.

3.       Part C- This category encompasses Medicare Advantage Plans, also known as Medicare Replacement Plans. These plans substitute current Medicare coverage with new plans because your current coverage is not yielding significant benefits.

4.       Part D- Prescription drug costs are significant in this part. Prescription Drug Plans are an example.

Benefits of Medicare

1.       Medical insurance coverage for elderly at affordable prices.
2.       There is reimbursement of Medicare amount under Prospective Payment System (PPS).
3.       New facilities, medical procedures, and technologies.
4.       Retired candidates can betray their expensive private insurances for economic Medicare coverage.
5.       Different enrolment periods offer flexibility to enroll or modify your existing coverage.
6.       Spouse coverage involved with some specific plans.
